QAPL 2018: EPTCS application to publish

The 16th installment of QAPL will be held as a one-day event at FLoC
2018 in Oxford, mid July, on the day preceding FM 2018, to which the
workshop is affiliated. PC-chairs are Mieke Massink (ISTI/CNR Pisa)
and Erik de Vink(TU Eindhoven/CWI Amsterdam).

As previous installments, QAPL 2018 has two types of contributions:
regular papers and short presentations. Regular papers go through the
usual refereeing process and will be included in the
post-proceedings. Short presentations are selected by the PC-chairs
and included in the pre-proceedings only.

For the refereeing a program committee has been recruted consisting of
23 researchers covering the field, including the PC chairs. (See
below.) In line with previous years, we aim at 15 to 20 contributions
to which 3 PC-members will be assigned, a workload of 2 or 3 papers
per person for a three-week review period, with PC-chairs to guide the
discussion and/or tie breaking. Reviews are collected at
EasyChair. The EasyChair platform is also used for the on-line
discussion.

Two invited speakers have already been agreed to give a lecture, Carlo
Ghezzi and Annabelle McIver. The program allows for 5 to 8 regular
papers to be selected and as well as a smaller number of short
presentations.

Numbers of submissions of regular papers and short presentations has
been dropping the past years. In 2017 in Uppsala faced an all-time low
number of 6 regular papers vs 4 short contributions submitted of which
5 regular papers have been selected for presentation and inclusion in
the post-proceedings. Contributions of the invited speakers (then
Erika Abraham and Andrea Vandin) have been included in the
post-proceedings as well after review by both PC-chairs. Despite the
low number of submissions, the workshop was a vivid gathering, also
with people popping in and out, welcoming 25 to 30 attendees over the
whole day.

Proceedings of QAPL have appeared yearly in the EPTCS since 2010 as
satelite event of ETAPS. For 2018 it has been decided to move to FLoC,
partly because of the location (Thessaloniki for ETAPS vs. Oxford for
FLoC) and partly, in view of the discussion above, to attract more and
other, i.e., more logically oriented, submissions. It is noted, at
ETAPS quantative topics have found well their way in the conference
programs.
